Bondi Breaks a 47-Year Drought – Warren Squad are Champions!

Posted on: 29 September

Bondi has done it. After 10 weeks of grit, grind, and belief, our Warren squad has brought home the flag—our first in 47 years. In a nail-biting final at Cabramatta Golf Club, it all came down to the last hole. Lee Evans & Tom Randon took the win on 16, Brad Greenaway & Dave Lorentz were edged out on 17, and with the match tied 1–1, everything rested on Cam Danzey-Gillett & Casey Hurrell. Our undefeated pair rose to the moment, sealing victory on 18 in front of a sea of Bondi supporters. Casey hit the flop shot of a lifetime, one that will go down in the Bondi history books, and the roar said it all: Bondi are champions.

A Season of Sundays

The 2025 Warren & Gibson campaign was built on 10 straight weeks of Sunday battles. Week after week, our squads fronted up in every condition imaginable—from gusty winds and downpours to tough away tracks—fighting for every hole. Behind the scenes, the commitment was even greater: hundreds of hours of practice at Bondi and courses all over Sydney, fine-tuning swings, sharpening short games, and preparing mentally for the grind.

The Gibsons – A Historic Run

Our Gibson squad capped the regular season with dominant form, securing multiple sweeps and earning their first finals berth in decades.

The strong results earned a bye through the first playoff stage. On 14 September at Wallacia GC, the Quarter-Final against Moore Park was a hard-fought battle from the first tee. Rob Aoukar and Lachy Pearse set the tone early, winning the first 3 holes and never trailing, closing out their match 4&2. Christophe Debussy and Will Ng finished on 16, losing 3&2 in a tight contest.

As the last hope to push Bondi into the Semi-Finals, Brock Goodyear and Col McKell produced a heroic fightback, coming back from 3-down to take their match to the 18th, unfortunately falling short of the win.

The 1–2 result doesn’t capture the full story. Every match was hard-fought, every hole contested, and the squad showed heart, resilience, and the spirit of our great Club. A finals appearance for the first time in so many years is something the Gibbo’s and the club can build upon.

The Warrens – Relentless on the Road to Glory

The Warren squad charged into the playoffs with momentum, sealing a 2–1 win in the last round of the season and earning a bye through the elimination qualifier.

At Wallacia, Ngari George & Tom Randon closed out their match 6&4, while Cam Danzey-Gillett & Casey Hurrell delivered a birdie–birdie–birdie stretch to win 3&2, sending Bondi through.

Against Lynwood in the Semi at Asquith, Cam & Casey dominated 5&4, Brad Greenaway & John Powell battled bravely to the 18th, and Lee Evans & Tom Randon secured the match with clutch putting down the stretch.

That resilience set up the final at Cabramatta, where Bondi showed up in force. With dozens of supporters lining the fairways and greens, the Warren boys refused to be denied. The final hole sealed not just a match, but a piece of history.

More Than Golf – A Bondi Culture

This season has been about more than results. The Warren & Gibson squads have forged a culture of camaraderie and support that has become a core pillar of Bondi Golf & Diggers Club. Dozens of members have given their Sundays to caddie, manage, or cheer the teams on. In many ways, those supporters were as much a part of the squad as the players. Every par save, every birdie, every match win was built on that collective energy.

Thank You

To every player, caddie, manager, supporter, and staff member—this triumph belongs to you. You’ve not only brought home a flag, but you’ve written a new chapter in Bondi’s history.

Here’s to the Gibsons, who laid a foundation for the future. Here’s to the Warrens, who broke a 47-year drought. And here’s to the entire Bondi family, who proved that with belief, hard work, and unity, anything is possible.

We are Bondi. We are champions. DEFEND THE BEACH!
